The Review: I can't really imagine a better film of John Green's bestselling book. This is an effective, faithful and moving adaptation. What still amazes me about this story is the way something brave and uplifting shines through what is basically a story of dying, and the actors here do justice to the characters in the book. In fact, I think I liked the female narrator more in the film.
I was hoping they'd axe the cringeworthy applause scene in the Anne Frank house but it made the edit, a shame as this is a story which rarely slips into slushy sentimentality.
The Verdict: An adaptation that largely does not disappoint.
