The Review: Genevieve Pembleton is the eponymous leading character, Tristan Limb her delightfully-named sidekick. Together they investigate the paranormal and this book’s four shorts are cleverly written, thoroughly entertaining and drenched in wonderfully sarcastic and dry humour.
We meet several interesting characters along the way, my favourite Cuthbert who’s just… well, you’ll have to see for yourself. Cosgrove’s writing is excellent, a notch up from his fine Ethan King, and he has a wonderfully readable style. He writes action scenes, episodes full of crazy humour and then hits you with moments of extraordinary poignancy, the latter rendering the final story surprisingly moving.
The Verdict: Reading these four Who-esque stories after Ethan King has cemented in my mind that Martin Cosgrove is an author to watch.
