The Review: I recently watched Paddy Considine’s gritty masterpiece for a second time and it has lost none of its rawness and brutality. Peter Mullan plays a deeply troubled man who resorts to shocking violence at the flick of a switch. Olivia Colman gives the performance of her life as an abused housewife. The two characters enter each other’s lives. Out of the grimmest circumstances, can each find hope?
This is not for the faint-hearted. Littered with strong language and sudden distressing acts of violence, it isn't an easy watch. It leaves a haunting impression with just the right amount of redemption.
The Verdict: Stunning British cinema at its best. Dog lovers beware.
