The Review: When it was released, I spent many hours reading Lionel Shriver’s book with increasing fascination and anxiety. Here is a film which actually comes close to doing the novel justice. It’s an impressive mishmash of flashbacks, present-day scenes, striking (often blood-red) imagery and the ominous, ever-present sound of a garden sprinkler.
Tilda Swinton is astonishing as the mother pushed to the brink with her son, Kevin. But how much are she and her weak husband (John C Reilly) to blame?
The best movies provoke debate and this leaves more questions than answers. But that’s in no way a bad thing.
The Verdict: You Need To See This Film
